Lycast cruenta
Quoting from Lindley – “there are several forms all with yellow flowers
and a dark red blotch and dimple at base of lip. Strong cinnamon scent,
large golden yellow flowers on short stems, appear before new growth.
Feed heavy, perfect drainage, good light and air. No water in the
winter.” This plant has large leaves and bulbs and has bloomed. |

Aerides odoratum
These grow in Thailand on the side of a tree. This year the AOS Orchids
magazine pictured one growing in Thailand. These are more of a vine like
growth with a very sweet fragrance bloom of a waxy texture on a long
spike. The color is pink, yellow and cream. These plants are in 12”
metal hanging baskets with a coconut liner potted in expanded slate (Stalite
– sold at Ironwood Estate Orchids). They are mature with the roots
growing through the basket liner. Two have bloomed. |
