Ironwood Estate Orchids is an orchid grower with several genera of orchids. Orchids combined with our lovely containers make an excellent gift. Or add an orchid to your collection, using a variety of hybrids and species of orchids to enhance any collector's dream.

We carry orchids from across the U.S. and around the world. Our orchids are very high quality and perform superbly.

Fall is a good time for our Cattleyas, some in bloom and some close to blooming. 
A special group of smaller size quality Cattleyas will be for sale at reduced prices.
A group of deciduous and less common orchids will be offered at special prices.  There will also be some mature Vandas in the sale.

 
Cattleyas
Each of these Cattleyas is in a 3 ½” clear Poppelmann ™ pot which is specifically designed for growing orchids.

Dendrobium
Dendrobium lindleyi (also known as aggregatum) 
Miniature, small growing Dendrobium.  Compact plants.  Blooms in the winter / spring.  Needs a cool dry winter rest to get it to bloom. Well growing plants.

Dendrobium anosum (also known as superbum)
Many people have wanted this plant that we imported from the Philippines.  We now have available for you the new growth from the imported plant.  The anosum is deciduous and has large very fragrant blooms. It is a pendulous cane type Dendrobium.  It grows well in intermediate to warm temperature.  Let it have a dry period beginning in October, until the new leads appear, sometime in spring and blooms in the spring.                   $35 each – Only have 4
 
Brassavola
Brassavola Little Stars
is a primary hybrid between nodosa and subulifolia that was created by Stewart Inc in 1983.  It is a great growing orchid with pencil shaped leaves.  These are all blooming size plants.  They can be left in their fresh potting mix, or put in sphagnum moss.  They have sweet white almost heart shaped blooms that come out from the leaf with a light fragrance later in the day.  They are blooming size in 4” pots for $25 each

Phalaenopsis
Phalaenopsis pulchra
–   This species orchid is a keiki / baby from the one we imported from the Philippines.  It blooms a deep purple bloom that has heavy texture (thicker petals) and usually has one bloom.  It is a very special orchid to add to your collection.

Bulbophyllum
Bulbophyllum A-doribill Ring (Bulb frostii x Bulb dentiferum)
pink blooms  This was a large plant that has been divided earlier this year and

Vandas
All of these Vandas are fully mature Vandas that have bloomed
 
Vanda Robert's Delight 'Crownfox Big Red' FCC/AOS (V. Kasem's Delight x V. Madame Rattana)   Large brilliant  red-fushia blooms on long spikes.  Beautiful, arresting, great show.  Won best pink Vanda at the 2002 show in Miami and best Vanda at the 17th World Orchid Conference.     Was $60, now 30% off.  Is $42 
Vanda Barbara Ornest (V. Boonchoo x V. Kretcant)  Very large two-tone flowers, bright pink with deep purple markings.  Heavy substance and glistening texture.

Directions to the greenhouse:  From Interstate 40 at Hickory, NC, take exit 123A.  Go on highway 321 South to exit 41, River Road exit.  At the top of the exit ramp turn left onto River Rd.  Go about 3 miles to a T intersection.  Turn right onto Sandy Ford Rd.  It is the 5th house on the left with the greenhouses behind our home.  Sign at driveway for Ironwood Estate Orchids.
 

If someone cannot come to the greenhouse, we will be accepting phone orders that can be shipped.  Shipping will be done during the week after the sale.
 
Master Card and Visa are accepted.  We ship by US Post Office Priority Mail (unless the customer request some other way) and charge the customer exactly what the priority mail cost plus $10 for boxing (more for very large boxes).

In Our Greenhouse  

There are plants in bloom throughout the year as well as young plants that you can grow to bloom. Also available are orchid supplies and varied decorative pots for plants. Currently there are several Phalaenopsis both in bloom and many with buds ready to open in upcoming weeks. There are also Oncidium and others in bloom now.

Ironwood Estate Orchids belongs to the American Orchid Society
and the International Phalaenopsis Alliance
as well as the Catawba Valley Orchid Society.

 

Phyllis and Dale have been growing orchids for over 20 years and are active in orchid societies.
